Skin Care 101

12:35 PM

Hey guys! Guess what? We're going to give you all our skin care secrets today. We are both estheticians and have over 20 years of combined experience, so if that doesn't convince you that everything we say is gold we dont know what will. Juuuuust kidding...well, kinda!

Ok, so if you are anything like us you spend most of your days forking out way too much money on skin products to diminish the signs of aging (caused by your kids), lighten your dark spots (caused by pregnancy, so in turn, caused by your kids), erase your sun damage (caused by your kids stealing all your sunscreen application time and therefore making you neglect your own suncare needs), and soften your laugh lines (ok, those ones are caused by your kids too ;)

Well, we are here to tell you that you have probably been doing it all offense. The plus side? It's a lot cheaper than you might think to take care of your skin...

First off...

Face Wash and Moisturizer DONT matter!
Ok, maybe they matter a little bit, but this is definitely not what you should be spending your big bucks on. Both your face wash and your moisturizer are really designed to maintain, not change, so spending a fortune on your suds really isn't going to give you visible results when trying to correct something. The best way to make your face wash work to it's optimum potential? Use a Clarisonic! Day and Night...ok, no one has time for that. Just try to use it when you can!

Exfoliants, Serums, and Masks are where it's at!
Now here is where you should be spending a pretty little penny! Your exfoliants, serums, and masks are designed to make changes in the skin, meaning, these products are what is going to make the difference and correct the lines, dark spots, sun damage, acne, etc. Want our advice? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn't be here. You should be exfoliating and using a mask 2 times a week. You should be using a serum, or corrective fluid every night or every other night depending on the products recommendations.

Give me all the Coconut Oil!
Really. This oil. The end. People text and email us all the time for skincare recommendations. "What should I do about my huge pores?" Coconut Oil. "What should I put on my old ugly skin?" Coconut Oil. "I break out, what moisturizer should I use?" Coconut Oil. Are you getting the picture? No matter what your skin type you will absolutely LOVE Coconut Oil. Use it day and night!

Save time and mix it up!
Mom life does not leave a lot of time to layer on product after product. If you are like either of us, you are just happy to get out of the house with your teeth brushed. So mixing things help speed up the process. Oils blend nicely into creams or SPF's. Serums can be blended into your masks or creams. Don't be scared to mix one product into another. Our favorite thing to mix into everything? Frankincense! Skin care heaven in a tiny little bottle. Mix a drop or two into ANYTHING to boost your products moisturizing and healing abilities.

Without SPF everything else is pointless!
We are not exaggerating when we say SPF is absolutely necessary to keeping your skin looking young. You can spend all the money in the world on all the best products and if you go out every day without wearing an SPF you might as well just be treating your skin with...I dont know...something really shitty! Wear SPF! Every day! Dont forget!

  1. I am in my 30's and still break out. Are peels okay to use? I am scared to irritate my acne prone skin, but I would love something to help with red marks and sun spots.

  3. Antioxidants help to quench free radicals, and this can keep your skin looking younger! In fact, they can help as much or maybe more than using a good skin care product! Antioxidants are found in many foods, especially fruits and vegetables, and are especially high in many berries. Mary Crosland & Mary Crosland B Complex and E complex vitamins are also great antioxidants, found in abundance in whole grains and nuts and seeds. Some great foods for your skin include berries as well as avocados and leafy greens. Organic food often contains higher levels of antioxidants, and so does food that is fresh from the farm, so try to eat organic from the farm or your garden as much as you can!
